Harrisburg University has launched a new esports degree in partnership with Nerd Street Gamers. Beginning this spring semester, students at the Pennsylvania school will be able to enroll in Harrisburg’s esports program, which will help provide with them skillsets for a career in this industry, reports Cheddar Business. Nerd Street Gamer’s Director of University Partnerships Christian Kunkel and Harrisburg University’s Esports Program Director Charles Palmer gave Cheddar a breakdown of this new degree.
This is a full four-year Bachelor of Science program with core courses such as contemporary esports issues, social media management, business courses, analytics and leadership, according to Palmer. The school is looking to shape the future of esports. “One of the courses that I think is really going to do this is, we have a course called Fan Engagement where we’re looking at what can happen in the development of these venues or even online that can increase the number of people who are actually engaged in some of the activities and tournaments that take place,” Palmer said.
